The pier - again

Another visit to my favourite spot in Ireland - Doolough, Delphi, Co. Mayo.

And beside my young apprentice Ella (who enjoyed using my gopro camera to get some behind the scene footage) and a few sheep there was not a soul in sight. Quite unusual for this time of year, but very appreciated.

Island Life

No visit to the Aran Islands would be complete without visiting the Plassey wreck on Inis Oírr.
I just wished I could have stayed till later in the evening for better light conditions, but the boat back to Inis Mór left the harbour at 3pm, so this shot was all I got.

Rushed sunset

Yesterday we had one of those unexpected and short lived sunsets with a great colour burst, that only lasted a few minutes. Just enough time for me to drive to Carramore Pier and get two images before the sun vanished behind the clouds and took all the colours with it.

An Irish sunset

Yesterday's dreamy sunset over Aughagower, a few miles outside of Westport, Co. Mayo.

I could get used to the current weather and its amazing sunsets...

Finally we got some decent and calm weather at last

I made this photo yesterday on my way home from the gallery. I have been planning to shoot this place for weeks now, but had to wait for the sun to set further north to give the scenery that little bit of golden light to the front of Croagh Patrick and give it to a more 3- dimensional feel, rather than just having a silhouette and very dark and boring foreground when the sun sets behind the Reek.

☘️Happy Paddy's Day ☘️

This photo of the Northern Lights over Clew Bay I made exactly two years ago. I don't think tonight is looking promising for another Aurora chase. The weather has been so bad that the local parades had to be cancelled or postponed. Never mind trying to get new landscape photos.

Funny weather pattern

For the last week or two we have had a funny weather pattern where the sun comes out about an hour before sunset, teasing me to quickly find a good viewpoint, but then thick clouds are rolling in to block it out before the sun dips below the horizon. I made this photo during the week on the beach of Keem Bay, Achill.

Always have your camera at hand

This is proof that we photographers are never truly off work.

On Monday afternoon on my way back from grocery shopping I couldn't just drive home to Louisburgh without stopping outside of Westport and capture the snow dusted Croagh Patrick, while my ice cream slowly melted in the car boot.... The price you pay for a good shot.

The bad weather sunset

Over the weekend I gave a one-to-one workshop to Pete from Southampton. With the damage and mess caused by storm Doris and the weather forecast not entirely in our favour, we chanced it on Saturday afternoon to go and chase that elusive yellow thing in the sky. As it was still very windy we decided to stick to the greater Westport Quay area for that little extra shelter from Clew Bay, but we still got battered by gales and showers.

Thankfully, after waiting for quite some time, the sun made a brief appearance before she got swallowed up again by thick and scary looking clouds.
